Dr Satyen Mehta is a spinal surgeon practicing in Mumbai (Bombay), India. His work is solely concerned with treatment of disorders of the spine. These conditions include degenerative disorders of the back or neck (disc herniations, stenosis, spondylolisthesis, etc), tumours of the spinal column, infections involving the spine (Tuberculosis etc), osteoporosis of the spine, trauma to the spinal column and developmental problems including scoliosis.
Dr Satyen Mehta is a gold medalist (first rank) in the M.S. Orthopaedics examination from The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (Bangalore). He has been awarded the degree of Member of Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, United Kingdom (UK). In his training years he has trained extensively in treating spinal conditions in various institutions in India, South Korea and Australia. Dr Mehta has done a fellowship in spinal deformity corrective surgery and pediatric spine surgery at Korea University Guro Hospital, Seoul, South Korea. His expertise and training in spinal surgery was recognized by internationally acclaimed Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia, where he worked for over a year in the Spine department. He has also trained in minimally invasive spine techniques.
Dr Satyen Mehta is actively involved in academics and research. He has published many papers in international journals and made presentations in local and international conferences. He is actively involved in training of post graduate Orthopaedic students. He is a member of Bombay Orthopaedic Society, Association of Spinal Surgeons of India and Indian Orthopaedic Association. Dr Mehta continues to be involved in research activities to continually update his knowledge so that his patients may receive the latest and best treatment available. He has multiple Spine Fellowship Programmes running under him since many years. Young Spine Surgeons from all over India and neighbouring countries are trained under him. Dr Mehta has also served as Secretary to Bombay Spine Society which is an Academic organisation aimed at improving and spreading knowledge for treatment of spine related disorders.
Dr Mehta offers a range of treatment options for spinal disorders including exercise programme, postural corrective methods, medications, nerve root and facet blocks, vertebroplasty and surgical procedures. He believes in selecting treatment strategy based on individual requirements of the patient. The treatment strategy may be non-operative or surgical based on what will give best and safest results.
Dr Satyen Mehta is particularly interested in microscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques for decompressions and fusions. These techniques (mini TLIF etc.) involve minimal surgical dissection leading to very little discomfort after surgery. Dr Mehta is very happy to provide patients with the benefits of these new techniques.
